Hospice care for pets is not any different from human hospice care. Hospice describes the care of pets that have a terminal illness or a geriatric pet close to natural death. Veterinary hospice care is a unique approach to your pet’s end of life needs. As with human medicine there are times we are told “there is nothing more we can do.” In veterinary medicine sometimes hospice care comes from the owner’s wishes for comfort care instead of therapy and sometimes it comes from financial constraints. Other times it is simply an incurable illness. Whatever the reason is, our goal at Faithful Friends is to give your companion the comfort and care they deserve and to keep your bond with your pet secure.
Faithful Friends Veterinary Hospital has a goal to keep suffering and pain to an absolute minimum while maintaining your pet’s quality of life. Our focus is not curing your pet’s disease in hospice care. Hospice care does not involve diagnostic testing (examples: blood work, radiographs, or surgery). But instead we manage the symptoms through pain medication, physical therapy, special diet, management of incontinence, wound care and subcutaneous fluids. Most importantly, our staff will educate you about your pet’s disease and what will happen to the best of our medical knowledge. Our pledge to you is to be here for you and your pet every step of the way. We know this is a very difficult time and we want your last memories of your Faithful Friend to be good ones.
